Karrina Chong Named Hillsdale Heart of a Knight and Scholar Athlete of the Year

Karinna Chong has had straight A’s every semester at Hillsdale High school. She is currently in 4 AP classes with a 4.4 GPA. She was a semi-finalist for national Merit Scholar award. She is also in the band and plays 2 different instruments. She is in the Jazz ensemble and the winds ensemble. She will be attending Santa Clara University in the fall Athletics.
Karinna was on our jv team freshman and sophomore year playing outfield and pitching. When she came up to Varsity last year She was one of our starting outfielders. Early in the season we were playing a game at Half Moon Bay high school. Karinna had pitched 4 shutout innings and then we put her in centerfield. As she went back on a ball she made a diving catch and collided with the fence pretty hard. Her first instinct was to hold up her glove to show she had the ball! Unfortunately Karinna suffered a severe concussion that kept her out the remainder of the season. Wanting to come back for her senior year Karinna worked hard at her pitching in the off season and came back strong to start off our season. While pitching in a game against Mt. View this year I could tell that something was wrong. She was having pain in her leg and had to come out of the game. That evening Karinna went to the doctors and found out she had a tear in her quadricep muscle. Instead of giving up Karinna worked hard at healing and doing everything that Sara advised her to do to get better. Karinna was able to come back to play after spring break. Karinna pitched her first game since returning last week against Woodside. She pitched a complete game with 9 strikeouts and only 3 hits allowed. Karinna is an amazing teammate that is always there to give you 110% and such a pleasure to coach.
