SEPTEMBER 2018

Student Name:  Paige “Sully” Sullivan

Grade: 12

Sport: Girls Golf

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach: Sully has been a solid Captain this season. She has been a big reason the team is making progress. Sully hit a 50 against Aragon to help the team beat the Dons for the first time in over 7 years! Sully is working hard to break 46 consistently. Keep up the great work Sully!

Student Name: Julia Ratti

Grade: 11th

Sport: Girls Water Polo

Accomplishment/Quote from Coach: Julia is a true team player, she exemplified this through stepping up and playing 2 meter hole D last week in Tuesday’s win over Capuchino in her teammate’s absence.

Student Name: Camille Williamson

Grade: 10th

Sport: Girls Tennis Team

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach: Camille has taken on a big role in the girls tennis team this year, especially as a sophomore on varsity singles no 4. She demonstrates good sportsmanship, even during difficult matches against tough opponents.
Last week, Camille was the only team member to win against Menlo Atherton, the top team in our league, which shows her hard work and dedication on and off the court

Student Name: Jaret Altamirano Sanchez

Grade: 9th

Sport: Cross Country

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach: Jaret has come on strong in his Freshmen season. He’s been so so consistent at practice and it showed in our last race where he beat his projected time by more than a minute! I’m so excited for to watch him improve and grow into a major contributor for both Hillsdale’s Cross Country and Track teams.

Student Name: Kaia Emery

Grade: 9th

Sport: Cross Country

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach: In only her Freshmen year, Kaia has already made significant contributions to the Varsity Girls. At the Woodbridge Invitational she beat her projected time by 30 seconds and took home a medal. For our first league meet only three days later, she was the Varsity girls 6th finisher for a team that looks primed to advance to the CCS championships

Student Name: Melanie Cooper   “Super Coop”

Grade:  12

Sport: Girls Golf

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach: Coop hit an Eagle on number 10 at Poplar last week against Burlingame and then followed it up with an Eagle on 4 last Thursday against Carlmont. Eagles  ( a score of two under par for a given hole) do not happen very often, so this was a super feat by Super Coop. She has led the golf team to a 2-1 record and has shown great leadership skills as captain.  Good job Coop!

Student Name: Sophia Roser

Grade: 11th

Sport: Girls Tennis Team

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach:  Sophia is the Girls Tennis Team’s co-captain and our number one singles player; she possesses strong leadership qualities and is currently undefeated 4-0.

On Tuesday vs. Sacred Heart she easily won 6-1, 6-3. On Thursday (our first official league match) vs. Half Moon Bay she made a huge comeback and won 1-6, 7-5, 6-0. She fought back with perseverance for over 2 hours, and it was thanks to her win that we were able to secure our victory versus Half Moon Bay 4-3.

“Sophia listened to my advice when she was behind in the second set 3-5 and had already lost the first set 1-6, so I advised her to be patient when playing versus her opponent, to not hit the ball recklessly, and to not give up since she still had a chance to win it back. And Sophia did such an amazing job in following my advice and was able to regain full control of the match, defeating her opponent 6-0 in the third set. I am so proud of her for her determination and patience!” -Coach Jackie

Student Name: Audrey Gilbert

Grade: 10

Sport: Girls Varsity Volleyball

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach:  Sophomore Audrey Gilbert had 27 kills, 10 aces, 4 digs and 6 blocks in Hillsdale wins over Gunn, Half Moon Bay, and San Mateo.  Her outstanding performance helped seal the victories and keep the Knights undefeated at 6-0.

Student Name: Maggie Sena

Grade: 9th

Sport: Cross Country

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach: As a freshmen, Maggie represented Hillsdale in the “Varsity” division, finished first on the team, and paced the girls to 12th place overall – the girls highest ever finish at this very competitive meet.

Student Name: Adam Ousherovitch

Grade: 10

Sport: Boys JV Water Polo

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach:  Goalie Adam Ousherovitch notched his first career shutout, compiling 18 saves in the Knights 12-0 victory on Saturday, September 8 in the annual Aragon JV Boys Waterpolo tournament.  “Adam was dominating,” stated Coach Bryan Bent.  “We went to a more defensive set-up in our 3rd game of the day, after losing two very close matches in the morning.”  “Our defense, set up our offense.”  “Adam was ‘Spider-Man like’, would outlet the ball, and we were gone down the pool with an advantage all game long.”  “We made great strides today, but Adam was the key”.

Student Name: Bradford Slade

Grade: 11th

Sport: Cross Country

Summary of Accomplishment/Quote from Coach: Bradford is entering his third year competing as a runner for both Cross Country and Track and he has grown by leaps and bounds. At the Lowell Invitational – In 2016 he ran 2 miles at 10:44/mile pace – In 2017 he ran 2 miles at 8:30/mile pace. This weekend he ran the 3 mile “varsity course” at 7:42/mile. His effort and attitude are an inspiration to everyone on the team.
